Mix It Up at Lunch Day is Today

10/16/2011

Draper Elementary is excited to be one of the more than 2,100 schools participating nationally in our first-everMix It Up at Lunch Day” on Tuesday, Oct. 18. The Mix It Up program helps teachers develop inclusive school communities.

Just what is Mix It Up at Lunch Day? It is a national campaign launched by Teaching Tolerance a decade ago, Mix It Up at Lunch Day encourages students to identify, question and cross social boundaries.

In national surveys, students have identified the cafeteria as the place where divisions are most clearly drawn. So on one day – Oct. 18 this school year – we ask students to move out of their comfort zones and connect with someone new over lunch.

Students will be asked to sit with someone new in the cafeteria on Oct. 18 -– a small step that can go a long way toward breaking down social barriers. This will be a fun lunch day with engaging conversations learning about others and students learning about themselves.
