Congratulations to sixth-grade teacher Kami
Abercrombi who named Draper Elementary's 2012-13 Teacher of the Year today.
Mrs. Abercrombi loves helping her students, whether they seek to mummify a chicken
or learn a Shakespearean play. The sixth-grade teacher builds a community in
her Draper Elementary classroom by inviting parents and students to join her in
an educational partnership.
She prepares her students for middle school by
instilling in them a sense of motivation and responsibility. She provides
extracurricular opportunities for students via the Student Council, Safety
Patrol, and Debate and Creative Pursuits teams, the latter of which has won two
state competitions.
“Students want to perform their best for her because of her
leadership skills and her ability to engage her students,” her nominator
writes. “Mrs. Abercrombie is the best teacher my girls have had at Draper
Elementary and in the Canyons School District.”
