Volunteer Opportunities

As this school year starts to wind down, the PTA is  beginning to plan for the 2013-14 school year.  We have so appreciated the volunteers who have helped coordinate our various activities and who have volunteered in our classrooms.  Below is a list of the various volunteer opportunities available to you.  Please look them over and consider helping us this next school year.  Please let our President Elect Kerri Brown know if you would like to help, kerriebrown@comcast.net.


COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Oversee the following categories, look for any other needs our school has with regards to involving the community.
Community Sponsor Donations:  Contacts local companies for donations/involvement at Draper Elementary
Donation/BoxTops: In charge of Box-tops parties/sorting, grocery store donations, Harmon’s Day, etc.
Fun Run: Oversee the Fun Run to raise money for PTA programs, involve all commissions
Newsletter/Social Media: Inform parents/PTA members of PTA events and school calendar items monthly.
Room Parents: lassroom parties, classroom volunteers (including Art Through the Ages, field trips and recess). 
Spirit Wear/Spirit Days: T-shirt sales, Spirit Day prizes
Teacher Appreciation: Teacher luncheon, SEP dinners, teacher appreciation week in May, etc.
Volunteer Coordinator:  Coordinates room parents/volunteers, purchase party treats, awards/appreciation.

EDUCATION   
Oversee the following categories, look for any other needs our school has with regards to Education.
Book Fair:  Run the book fair during Parent Teacher Conferences, coordinate book fair volunteers
Dad’s and Donuts: Every 2nd Thursday at 8.am -Dads read with kids, purchase and pass-out donuts/drink. s
Kindergarten Orientation: Provide snack/drink for orientation
Literacy: Promote literacy, incentives for students who reach the goal for the month

EML/INCLUSIVITY
Oversee the following categories, look for any other needs our school has with regards to inclusivity/diversity.
Mix-it-up Lunches: Kids sit with someone different at lunch and get to know them.
Library diversity displays: Cultural displays in the library a few times a year.

HEALTH              
Oversee the following categories, look for any other needs our school has with regards to Health.
Fitness Chair:  Organize grade field days/Olympics, walk to school day.
Fun Run Health: Water, nurses, popsicles for Fun Run (coordinate with Fun Run Chair.)
Hearing/Vision Screenings: Get volunteers for screenings in October/November
5th Grade Maturation: Put together health items for 5th graders (i.e. deodorant), provide cookies

INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT
Oversee the following categories, look for any other needs our school has with regards to Individual
Development.
Art Chair: Art Through The Ages volunteers/training/supplies, other art needs.
Birthday Board:  Display student birthdays on a bulletin board.
Reflections: Oversee Reflections program for Draper Elementary, including kickoff, entry 
forms, judging, prizes and award evening.  Turn in winners to the district by the deadline and 
award evening.  Turn in winners to the district by the deadline..
Music Chair: Ideas for how to incorporate music at our school (currently have choir, grade
programs). 

SAFETY & WELFARE
Oversee the following categories, look for any other needs our school has with regards to Safety & Welfare.
Emergency Preparedness: Emergency kits for classrooms at the beginning of each year.
Recess Volunteers: Oversee the coordination of recess volunteers (room parents will get volunteers).
Red Ribbon Week: Daily fun things to remind the students to be drug free.
White/Blue Ribbon Week:  Daily fun things to encourage students to have respect/media safety/ 
 anti-bullying.
