Changes to School Lunch

8/23/2012

Students will see some changes in school lunch this year.  A new federal law regulates the cost and nutritional value of school lunch programs.
The district is providing a third entree option this year, and is rotating two entree options weekly.  They hope it will provide more options to students, as well as an option for students who would prefer sandwiches.
The biggest changes is that students select a fruit or vegetable each day and and maximum serving guidelines that encourage variety throughout the week.
Canyons has not raised its lunch prices. Since 2009, officials began incorporating whole grains and fresh produce into school lunch that satisfy the federal requirements.
