The following is information concerning the SALTA program for gifted students in the Canyons School District:
We are excited to announce testing for the SALTA magnet services
program. We are currently accepting SALTA
Request for Testing Forms for the 2013-14 school year. Testing Request Forms are available online at
https://salta.canyonsdistrict.org. The deadline to submit a SALTA Testing
Request Form is September 24, 2012,
at midnight. No late applications will
be accepted.
Who should be tested for
SALTA magnet services?
You may want to consider testing for your child if they exhibit some of
the following characteristics: has an advanced vocabulary for
his/her age, has lots of ideas and is imaginative, asks many questions, comes
up with many and varied solutions to problems, can learn information quickly
and needs less repetition to master a subject, remembers what has been learned,
is very interested in certain topics and wants to learn more about them, likes
to figure things out on his/her own, is a strong reader or reading above grade
level, and is extremely interested in math or works above grade level in math.
If you have a 3rd
grade child currently enrolled in the SALTA magnet program, your child will
need to be tested for continued eligibility in the SALTA magnet program for the
2013-2014 school year. You will need to fill out the SALTA Request
for Testing form. Testing for
current SALTA third graders will take place during the school day.
When and where will SALTA
magnet testing take place?
Testing for SALTA magnet services is
FREE for those currently enrolled in a Canyons School District School
and will take place in October 2012. Testing will occur over a two-day block and will last
approximately two hours on Day 1 and three hours on Day 2 with scheduled breaks
on both days. There are two sites
available for each testing block. The
testing blocks are as follows:
BLOCK 1: Peruvian Park or Sunrise Elementary*
Friday, October 5, 2012, 3- 5 p.m., SAGES-2
Saturday, October 6, 2012, 9
a.m.- 12 p.m., CogAT
BLOCK 2: Peruvian Park or Sunrise Elementary*
Friday, October 12, 2012, 3-5 p.m., SAGES-2
Saturday, October 13, 2012, 9
a.m.-12 p.m., CogAT
*When the SALTA Request for Testing Form is filled out you may select
the combination of dates and the testing location that is most convenient for
you.
Additionally, in order for your child to be considered for SALTA magnet
services, the Scales for Identifying Gifted Students (SIGS) must be completed
by BOTH the parent/guardian of the child and the child’s current teacher. You will fill out an electronic copy as part
of your student’s application. Your
child’s teacher will be sent an electronic copy by the Evidence-Based Learning
Department.
