Seeking Teacher of the Year Nominations

2/11/2013

Is your child’s teacher the best of the best?

Help us honor him or her with the School Teacher of the Year Award. The award will come with prizes from local businesses, a surprise announcement on March 22, a banner with his or her name placed on the outside of our school, and honors at an April 16 Canyons Board of Education Reception and Honors Ceremony, and a May 4 Real Salt Lake halftime.

He or she also will have a chance to be selected as the Canyons School District Teacher of the Year, which comes with additional prizes, Canyons Board of Education Recognitions at the September Apex Awards, and entry into the State Teacher of the Year contest.

Here’s how you can get involved:
1. Download the nomination form at www.canyonsdistrict.org
2. Fill in the form on why you think your nominee should be recognized. Criteria include how the teacher shows that students are making progress, supports the Canyons District vision and goals, and exhibits leadership skills and efforts to promote collaboration, student engagement, and community and family involvement.
3. Print and submit the form to the PTA (drop off at the office) by March 1. The School Selection Committee will consider nominees forwarded by the PTA (up to two) and employees.
4. Watch for information on the March 22 Teacher of the Year surprise announcement.

Thanks for helping us to celebrate our outstanding teachers!

Thanks For All You Do!

Nominate a Teacher

3/27/2012

The district is now taking nominations for "Teacher of the Year." Each year one teacher is recognized from each school in the district. The district then selects one educator from that group of distinguished educators to be the district "Teacher of the Year."

We have many amazing teachers who work with students here at Draper Elementary. Please take a few minutes to nominate your favorite. Nomination forms can be found on the district website by clicking here. Fill out the form online, print it, and send it into the school office in a sealed envelope no later than April 13.

Our PTA president will work with a small committee to review the nominations and submit two names for final consideration.

Welcome Ou Laoshi

10/11/2011

Draper Elementary welcomes its new second-grade Chinese immersion teacher, Lindsay O'Rourke (Ou laoshi). She replaces Loretta Eng. Ou laoshi graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in French Studies. Before graduating she completed a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She was also a student in the Chinese Flagship Graduate program at Ohio State University. She was taught high school Chinese
as a graduate student, and volunteered as an assistant teacher to native teachers at the
Contemporary Chinese School in Columbus, Ohio. Before accepting her position at our school, she was an aide in Alpine School District's Chinese immersion program.

Parents of second-graders in the Chinese immersion program are invited to a "Meet and Greet" with Ou laoshi this Friday from 2-2:30 p.m. in her classroom.

Meet the Teacher Hour

8/11/2011

All students in grades 2-6 can meet their teachers Friday, Aug. 19, from 2-3 p.m. during our first-ever "Meet the Teacher Hour." Teachers will be in their classrooms anxious to meet with students and parents. Teachers will also let you know what supplies students will need for the first day of class.

Kindergarten and first-grade students will meet their teachers during their specific assessment times.

We hope you are excited for the start of a new school year.
